Midweek Social

Performance Space’s Track 8 at Carriage Works hosted Midweek Social, a flirty and fun-filled audience participatory work featuring live performance, board games tarot readings and the chance to win retro prizes. As the evening went on, art works unfolded around the audience.

Midweek Social was hosted by the infamous voice-over artist Robbie McGregor. The entertainment line-up included three-piece alt-rock band The Knife Waltz whose daring burlesque performance had the audience enrapt. An astrologist was on hand to forecast futures and a range of games and challenges took place throughout the night.

Photographers John and Joy created wacky and wonderful portraits in the photobooth all night long. Props and costumes were available and a make-up artist was on hand for extra dazzle.

Winners of all games had the opportunity to pick a prize from the well-stacked prize table. Games included a paper plane race, a Rubik’s Cube challenge, various board games and Twister albeit drunken, among others.

Midweek Social was originally developed as part of my artist-in-residence at the National Art School in Sydney in 2007 where it made its debut. This page is devoted to its second outing at Performance Space in Sydney in 2010. Midweek Social received P4 Pilot Project Funding, a Performance Space/PICA/Australia Council collaboration.
